Animal Crackers is a 2017 3D computer-animated comedy-fantasy film directed by Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft, and written by Sava and Dean Lorey, based on the animal-shaped cookie and loosely based on the graphic novel by Sava.[5] The film stars the voices of Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Danny DeVito, Ian McKellen, Sylvester Stallone, Patrick Warburton, Raven-Symoné, Harvey Fierstein, Wallace Shawn, Gilbert Gottfried, Tara Strong, James Arnold Taylor, Kevin Grevioux, and introducing Lydia Rose Taylor in her film debut. It tells the story of a family who comes across a box of magical animal crackers that turns anyone that consumes a cracker into the animal that the cracker represents which comes in handy in saving the circus that the family was associated with.

In 2011, Scott Christian Sava wrote a comic book for Animal Crackers but was unable to garner any interest. In June 2013, Harvey Weinstein had seen a short film of the screenplay made by Sava[21] and two months later the Weinstein brothers made an offer to buy the rights to Animal Crackers.[22] Sava co-directed the movie with Tony Bancroft and co-wrote the screenplay with Dean Lorey.[22]

The film revolves around Owen and Zoe Huntington (Krasinski and Blunt), a couple who's to working at Zoe's father Mr. Woodley's (Shawn) dog biscuit factory. Desperate for a change, fate soon arrives when they are inherited Owen's uncle's well-respected circus after he burns in a fire. Known for its amazing animals, the Huntingtons discover that a mysterious box of animal crackers that they were given is the secret to the circus's success, as the cookies turn the user into the animal they've eaten. All seems to be well, until Owen's other attention-seeking uncle Horatio (McKellen) plots to steal the magic box of animal crackers for himself, in a desperate attempt to take over the circus. It's now up to Huntingtons to unite its family of acrobats and clowns to stop Horatio, though it'll take more than a few circus tricks to stop him completely.

Once again, this Marx Brothers film is different from most comedies in that is features a mile-a-minute gags, either verbal or sight, constant silliness and some music thrown in the mix. All of it runs the gamut from very clever to stupid. However, if it gets stupid hang around another minute or so and you'll find something to laugh at.One problem, especially with this film, is that some of the humor is dated and/or topical, meaning what was funny back then isn't necessarily now or the subject Groucho or Chico is talking about was big news back then but unknown now.Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this and found a lot of funny material. I enjoy the Marx Brothers clever stuff and their slapstick. I particularly appreciated Groucho apparently ad-libbing one scene. In a few others he acted like he was ad- libbing, turning his head and talking to the camera. You don't see much of that stuff, and it's funny. Two of the three songs were instrumentals, and they seemed to take away from the pace of the story. Groucho's song, "Hooray For Captain Spaulding," is a classic. Some consider this to be the best Marx Brothers movie but I found several others I liked a lot more, such as "Horse Feathers" and "Duck Soup," just to name two. 2ff7e9595c
